Dear DART,
I am here tonight as a
resident of the City of Dallas , a taxpayer and a customer of the Dallas Area
Rapid Transit System, and therefore believe I qualify as “the public”.
Let me start by asking you,
as DART representatives a few questions…
“Why is it that NONE of the
DART buses have these brochures?”
“Why is it that MOST of the
DART trains do not have these brochures?”
Why is it that 3 hours before
THIS public hearing tonight at the Ackard Station that began at 6:30 p.m. this evening that I could only secure about 20 of
these brochures because you had apparently not printed enough?”
Why is it that 3 of the 4
DART employees at the Ackard Station I asked about these brochures tonight were
not even aware of this brochure’s existence?”
Why is it that the
communication posted in the signage stating, “simplification” and a “few
increases” is a far cry from the specific changes (which are mostly INCREASES)
documented in this brochure?”
Finally, based on the above
questions and answers, how in the world can you honestly and accurately declare
that the public has been adequately notified of these hearings and proposed
rate changes?”
I think we can now agree that
the PUBLC has in no way been adequately informed of these hearings or proposed
rate changes. That is the FIRST thing I
wished to communicate tonight.
The second thing that I wish
to communicate is that I do not believe DART has adequately utilized the
resources it has and despite a large shortfall in profitability SHOULD be a
profitable company.
To support this theory, I
would like to first submit to you the fact that although most DART train and
bus stops were designed for sheet advertising with multiple sizing
possibilities (and therefore multiple pricing tiers from low end to high end),
virtually NONE of this space is adequately marketed by your Marketing
Department, if such a department actually exists. As a business owner of Dance4One, More Green
Consulting and multiple other website and business ventures, I would gladly pay
a fair price to advertise in a place with such a diverse audience, locations,
income levels, venues and with such a high rate of multiple exposures.
Another example of waste
within the current DART system is large number of DART employees seen chatting
and carrying on in one location, while not having ANY DART employees at another
location. This clearly effects not only
profitability, but can cause serious lapses and holes in providing adequate
security for not only the public, but YOUR customers.
So I close this letter by
addressing the public not only at this meeting, but through my blog located at www.Dance4One.blogspot.com, with
this question, “Why would YOU, the public tolerate anything less than a
proposal from DART that at a minimum
leaves the rates as they are, but should actually be a proposal that not only
includes dramatic decreases but a plan of action that adequately addresses
the lack of efficiency and security that
the DART system seems to currently be plagued with?”
I appreciate you listening to
me tonight, representatives of DART, and the Public. Thank you and God Bless You.
Very truly Yours,
