No matter what political party you may or may not be affiliated with, I think the vast majority of us would agree that there are many more Americans out of work than ever before. One of my favorite artists, Autotune the News, reiterates this precise point (We Need Jobs) several times in it’s “Auto-Tune the News #10: Turtles, Superbowls, Ethics and Jobs!” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7gjK3OgUM0). Most of us would even go a step further than this and state there are ALSO fewer jobs than ever before, but this is where I, and a few others would have to respectfully disagree…
You see, we ALL realize there are a LOT of people out there out of work and looking for jobs. However, we most likely disagree on how our country reached this unprecedented point in history, or what person or persons are responsible for this sad state of affairs. But in my opinion, this discussion is a waste of our time and energy and is, for all practical purposes, a moot point…
What most of us do not realize is not only are there a lot of people looking for jobs, there are actually a LOT of unfilled jobs… GOOD JOBS…jobs that are near a PERFECT match with those seeking those same jobs. But why can’t we, as a nation with an unprecedented amount of job seekers “connect the dots”, so to speak, with these GOOD jobs? The simple answer is “INFORMATION OVERLOAD”. The “Information Highway” has become much like I imagine the purported 60 mile traffic jam outside of Beijing, China I read about several months ago…Lot’s of clutter, noise, pollution, grid-lock, and ultimately bad data and false conclusions. If you will recall, as I do, for several days this HUGE TRAFFIC JAM was BIG NEWS…but then the “story” vanished as quickly as it began, with no reasonable explanation as to why.
It is the same way with job seekers and jobs. Companies like Google, Monster, Career Builder, Linked In, and most recently, Craigs List and even Facebook have in one sense made great strides in developing robust search engines that were designed to produce high-tech and desirable results, but for the most part fail miserably in connecting the job seeker with a position he or she desires and is truly qualified for. Why is this?
In FOUR words, BAD AND OBSOLETE DATA. The employer whose position is still posted on one of these websites either filled the job months ago, or the job NEVER existed, while the prospective employee’s resume is still posted on one of these sites when in reality they “landed” a position months ago. Thus these positions and resumes become a significant source of confusion and frustration for both employers still seeking to fill a validly vacant or newly created position, and those who are still truly seeking to be hired.
The FIRST step in correcting a problem is to realize there IS a problem…The SECOND step is to identify the SOURCE or CAUSE of the problem…and the THIRD step is to begin addressing the problem and determining the course of action needed to correct the problem…Dance4One is at Step 3…Where are you in this process and would you PLEASE let Dance4One and FACEBOOK know when you, TOO are at STEP 3? TOGETHER, we CAN make a DIFFERENCE and PROPEL our NATION into Forward Motion that results in POSITIVE CHANGE and FAVORABLE OUTCOMES…NOW, and WELL BEFORE 2016, the date the International Monetary Fund has recently stated as “The End of the Age of America”…
